Four employees at Chipata Level One Hospital in Lusaka are facing charges related to the theft of COVID-19 medical kits valued at over 2.8 million Kwacha. The accused individuals are Judith Dzekedzeke, a 46-year-old biomedical technician; Malama Nkhata, a 44-year-old driver; Langson Kampango, a 54-year-old biomedical technician; and Hilton Kasanyika, a 28-year-old station handyman.
The four suspects are charged with two counts: theft by a public servant and general theft. They are alleged to have stolen medical supplies, including COVID-19 kits, which were property of the Zambian government.
In the latest court proceedings, Lusaka Magistrate Anna Holland ruled that the state had presented sufficient evidence to establish a prima facie case against the accused individuals. As a result, the court has scheduled the commencement of the defense for January 29, 2025.
