The National Examinations Council of Tanzania (NECTA) has officially announced the Form Four Examination Results for 2025, marking a significant improvement in the national performance of secondary school students.
The results were released today, Saturday, January 31, 2026, by the Executive Secretary of NECTA, Professor Said Mohammed, during an official briefing.
Improved National Pass Rate
According to the official statistics, the overall pass rate has increased by 2.61 percent, reaching an impressive 94.98 percent. A total of 526,620 candidates passed the examination after scoring Division I, II, III, and IV, reflecting positive progress in Tanzania’s secondary education sector.
Furthermore, the number of students who scored Division I to III has also increased significantly. 255,404 students, equivalent to 46.1 percent, achieved these top divisions, indicating improved academic performance across the country.
Number of Candidates and Schools
In total, 569,883 students sat for the 2025 Form Four National Examination. These candidates were registered from 5,864 secondary schools, alongside 25,927 private candidates who sat for the exams at 813 registered examination centers nationwide.
Gender Distribution of Candidates
Out of 569,914 registered school candidates, the gender distribution shows that:
- 266,024 were male candidates, representing 47 percent
- 303,859 were female candidates, representing 53 percent
This data highlights continued strong participation of female students in secondary education across Tanzania.
Examination Attendance Rate
NECTA also reported a high level of attendance during the examination period. The attendance rate stood at 97.5 percent, equivalent to 555,606 students, demonstrating strong commitment and participation by candidates countrywide.
Education Sector Progress
The improved performance in the 2025 Form Four Examination reflects ongoing efforts by the government, teachers, parents, and students to enhance the quality of education in Tanzania. The rise in pass rates and higher divisions is seen as a positive indicator of strengthening academic standards.

HATUA ZA KUCHUKUA BAADA YA MATOKEO
