Zambia has received a generous grant of 10 million U.S. dollars from a United Kingdom-based nongovernmental organization to support early childhood development programs in Lusaka and Chongwe District. This significant contribution aims to enhance the educational experiences and future opportunities for young children in these regions.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) outlining the grant was signed today in Lusaka, marking a key milestone in the country’s commitment to providing quality education for all children. Local Government and Rural Development Minister Gary Nkombo, who attended the event, emphasized the importance of this partnership in shaping a brighter future for Zambia’s next generation.
“This agreement is a pivotal step toward ensuring that every child in Zambia, regardless of their background, is given the opportunity to thrive,” Minister Nkombo said. He noted that the initiative is part of the government’s broader efforts to prioritize education and uplift vulnerable communities.
Eddy Kalisa, a representative of Big Win Philanthropy, joined the event via Zoom and underscored the critical role that early childhood development plays in national growth. “Investing in the early years of a child’s education is fundamental for a country’s long-term development,” Kalisa stated.
Education Minister Douglas Syakalima also spoke at the ceremony, highlighting the importance of the grant in providing vital support to ensure young learners have access to high-quality education. He pointed out that this initiative will help children succeed in an ever-evolving world and equip them with the skills needed for the future.
Lusaka Province Minister Sheal Mulyata, whose speech was delivered by Lusaka Province Acting Permanent Secretary Alex Mapushi, expressed strong support for the program, noting that it aligns with Zambia’s Transformative Agenda 2030. This initiative is part of the government’s broader vision for sustainable development and education reform in the coming years.
With the 10-million-dollar grant, Zambia is poised to make significant strides in improving early childhood education and creating better opportunities for young children in Lusaka and Chongwe District.
