Snoop Dogg is facing backlash after performing at the Crypto Ball in Washington D.C. on January 19, ahead of Donald Trump’s inauguration.

The rapper, along with Rick Ross and Soulja Boy, took the stage at the Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium for an event hosted by former PayPal COO David Sacks. A video of the performance quickly surfaced online, sparking anger among fans. Many expressed shock and disappointment, calling Snoop’s decision “culturally embarrassing” and “disrespectful.” One commenter accused him of “selling my soul to the Devil.”

Former CNN anchor Don Lemon also weighed in on the controversy, asking if Snoop and other Black hip-hop artists were “sellouts” or just in it for the money.

Actress Amanda Seales joined the criticism, posting a throwback video of Snoop from years ago. In it, he questioned which artist would be the first to perform for Trump, saying, “I’m waiting,” and promising to “roast” whoever did. Seales captioned the post, “I hope it’s worth it.”

Snoop has been vocal against Trump in the past. In 2016, he shared a video on Instagram while smoking to YG and Nipsey Hussle’s anti-Trump song, “FDT.” He also released a video in which he shot a toy gun at a Trump impersonator. In 2019, during the government shutdown, Snoop criticized Trump’s supporters, saying, “If y’all do vote for him, y’all some stupid motherf**kers.”

Snoop has not directly addressed the criticism. Instead, he shared an Instagram story showing him and Rick Ross at the event. However, he has been active in supporting communities affected by the L.A. wildfires, organizing a donation drive at his Snoopermarket in Inglewood last week.
