Singer Linda Nolan, known for her success with The Nolans, has passed away after a long battle with cancer. The 65-year-old Irish star, alongside her sisters Coleen, Maureen, Bernie, Denise, and Anne, enjoyed major success in the late 1970s and 1980s. Their hit “I’m In The Mood For Dancing” became a disco classic.
In a tribute shared on The Nolans’ X account, her sisters described Linda as “a pop icon and beacon of hope.” They praised her courage and grace in facing incurable cancer, inspiring millions. Linda passed away peacefully in hospital this morning, surrounded by her siblings, according to her agent, Dermot McNamara. He said she was “embraced with love and comfort” during her final moments.
Linda achieved global success as part of The Nolans, one of the most successful girl groups of all time. The group became the first Irish act to sell over a million records worldwide, with over 30 million records sold. McNamara highlighted Linda’s distinctive voice and stage presence, calling her an icon of British and Irish entertainment.
Beyond her music career, Linda was also dedicated to charity work, raising over £20 million for causes such as Breast Cancer Now, the Irish Cancer Society, and Samaritans. McNamara emphasized her selflessness and commitment to making a difference in the lives of others.
Linda’s death followed a recent hospital admission for pneumonia. She began receiving end-of-life care after slipping into a coma on Tuesday. Plans for a celebration of her “remarkable life” will be announced soon.
