Kawambwa Tea, a fully Government-owned company, has earned around $1 million in export revenue for 2024. This is a major milestone for the company.
During a meeting with Levy Ngoma, Special Assistant to the President for Political Affairs, CFO Tachila Zulu shared that 80% of the company’s exports are bulk tea, mainly supplied to breweries. The remaining 20% is processed tea for direct consumer use.
Zulu also highlighted the company’s contribution to job creation, employing over 500 people.
Ngoma, who visited the Kawambwa Tea estate, praised the company’s success. He called it a “remarkable development story.” Ngoma stressed that the success of Kawambwa Tea shows what government-owned businesses can achieve with proper support.
“The rebirth of Kawambwa Tea proves that investment and management can lead to success,” said Ngoma. “The employment of over 500 people is more than just a number. It impacts families and communities.”
The government is focused on revitalizing key industries like Kawambwa Tea. This supports its broader goal of economic recovery and job creation.
Kawambwa Tea’s success proves that locally owned businesses can drive growth and create jobs for Zambians.
